Common Pet Emergencies

- Difficulty breathing (panting, choking, wheezing)
- Severe bleeding from a wound or the nose, mouth, or ears
- Vomiting/diarrhea for over 24 hours
- Straining or unable to pass stool or urine
- Acting lethargic or disoriented
- Symptoms of severe pain (moving slowly, shaking, sleeping more than usual, loss of appetite, flinching/crying when touched)
- Hasn’t had food or water in over 24 hours
- Any injury sustained to one or both eyes
- Blood in stool or vomit
- Limping, possible broken bones
- Burns, lacerations, or puncture wounds
- Loss of consciousness
- Hit by a car
- Ate a toxin (pills, household chemicals, chocolate, etc.)
- Attacked by a wild animal or another pet
